Poverty is the state of being extremely poor. Poverty is conceived as income insufficiency to meet one’s basic needs. Poverty has various manifestations including lack of income, hunger and malnutrition, and social discriminations and exclusion. Poverty is lack of opportunities and a violation of human dignity. Poverty means insecurity, powerlessness, scarcity and starvation. Poor produces poor. Poverty has been an issue of serious concern from the very beginning of development efforts in the world. Poverty is multi-dimensional and a multifaceted problem. Poverty as inequality, inequality is the difference between rich and poor. Poverty falls on deprivation trap. Poverty is both cause and consequences. So, it is very hard to give the universally accepted definition of poverty.
